We build what doesn’t exist yet.

EdenLab identifies where systems fail—in healthcare, technology, and daily life—and designs real-world solutions led by lived experience.

Why this matters (for the people most impacted)

Adverse group What’s broken right now Why EdenLab’s work matters
Disabled people Products, care systems, and public spaces assume one “normal” body and mind. Universal design research + assistive innovation turns lived experience into better infrastructure for everyone.
Chronically ill and immunocompromised people Care is fragmented, expensive, and designed around short appointments instead of daily reality. We build tools and care models that support independence, safety, and continuity outside “broken” systems.
Caregivers (paid and unpaid) Support labor is undervalued and systems offload coordination work onto families and individuals. Care infrastructure projects reduce the hidden workload and create sustainable support networks.
Low-income and underinsured communities Access depends on money, time off work, and proximity to specialists. Infrastructure-first solutions aim for affordability, repairability, and scalability beyond boutique pilots.
People in rural areas Distance, transportation, and limited services make “available” care functionally inaccessible. We design for real-world constraints so solutions work without perfect access, providers, or geography.
People experiencing isolation and loneliness Isolation is treated like a personal issue instead of a systems issue. Our social isolation research maps real behaviors to build products and platforms that create connection.
People marginalized by race, gender, and sexuality Systems were not built with these communities as the default user, leading to bias and harm. Design led by lived experience produces safer, more accurate, and more trustworthy systems.
People impacted by stigma (incontinence, mobility aids, mental health, addiction) Stigma blocks people from getting support and keeps innovation stuck in “medical” framing. Culture + media work shifts narratives so people can access care and tools without shame.
Older adults and aging bodies Independence often requires navigating multiple systems and devices that don’t talk to each other. Designing for the edge creates dignity, autonomy, and better standards as more people age into access needs.
